Design Wall Monday – June 28, 2010

Have a look at these pretty Stack n Whack blocks. My co-workers daughter picked out the fabric and I think it's just perfect for a 10 year old. Wait till you see the sashing she picked out!

Stashbusting 2010 - #26

Not too much used, but I didn't buy any for myself either. The 4 yards were for Jimmy's quilt.

I'm making a quilt for a co-workers daughter and we went to Joann's last week, but she bought everything, I'm just doing the stitching, so I'm not counting it at all.

Fabric Added This Week - 4 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date - 17.25 yards

Fabric Used This Week - 5.875 yard
Fabric Used Year to Date - 63.125 yards

YEAR TO DATE STASH USED: 48.875 yards

Maybe I can use a net of 50 yards by the end of June??

Happy Hour #2

I quilted Stephanie's pastel Happpy Hour last night and dropped it off at the quilt shop this morning. I think it turned out great and I hope she likes it.

I used a new panto, Hearts n Roses by Timeless Quilting, eggshell PermaCore thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting. I will certainly be using this panto again soon, as I really like it.

I applied the machine part of binding on 3 quilts this afternoon, so I'll have lots to do in the upcoming evenings.

Fire Escape

I finished the quilting on Jimmy's Fire Escape last night. Square Spiral is a great quilting design for a guy...not to mention that it's one I can do in one evening.

Next up is Stephanie's 2nd Happy Hour.

Cathy's Stack-n-Whack

I finally finished this one. I do believe that it was on Mabel longer than any other quilt in almost 3 years. It's worth it though as I think it looks great.

Of course, it's dark outside, so I can't get a shot of the entire quilt, but here are a couple closeups. I just love the feather meander on the lime green!

Here is a shot of the entire quilt....blowing in the wind, darn it.

Friday Night Sew-In Results

Here's what I worked on Friday night, and yesterday also. Jimmy's orange quilt. This is part of it on the design wall and it is actually an assembled top, but no pic yet.

Wishing a very happy Father's day to all the dads I know.

Here's Dan being a great dad a few years ago:

Friday Night Sew-In

Gosh, it's been a long blogless week for me. What did I do?

Well, I worked on Cathy's quilt a bit, attended 2 guild meetings, went out for dinner 2 times, got food poisoning, made a visit to the doctor, spent quite a bit of time lounging. And here it is Friday and I'm ready to get some sewing done.

So, I'm joining the Friday Night Sew-In.
I'll be working on Jimmy's fire Escape quilt. Jimmy workes with me and he has spent a year or so battling cancer and got a clean bill of health last week. When I asked him for a favorite color, he said, "Orange." Well, I tried to find a pattern that would look masculine in orange and I think this one will work.

I had to buy a quarter-yard to finish my 6" block of the month, but I used it.

The other fabric used was for this Margo Bag. The pattern is by Lazy Girl Designs and it went together pretty well.

June BOM

I finished the hand applique on this month's BOM at Cheryl's Quilt Shop. Sometimes when I make a block like this, I think I would like to make an entire quilt with these. Maybe I will......hmmmm. I must say that I prefer the Dresden Fans that have a point, like these that I made for a block swap.

This BOM doesn't meet until the last Saturday of the month, so I'm ahead of the game this month.

Another quilt of Roberta's and Lois' Batiks

I finished this one up on Saturday. It has quite a few stains, but I have had pretty good luck with washing these and the stains coming out most of the way. I'm not sure of the pattern, but it could be Caesar's crown, Grecian star, or Whirling Wheel, according to the Encyclopedia of Quilt Blooks.

The background is meandered and the pieced block has CC's. The thread it Permacore Eggshell and the batting is Hobbs poly, a thicker batting to help with the fullness of some of the blocks.

And the back:

This one was made by Lois and is the 2nd one of the same fabrics and design. Her piecing is wonderful and it laid flat as can be.

The thread is Permacore white, the batting is Warm & White and the quilting is Fay Feathers

And the back:

Fabric Added Year to Date - 13 yards

Fabric Used This Week - 2.25 yard
Fabric Used Year to Date - 54.75 yards

YEAR TO DATE STASH USED: 41.75 yards

I sure haven't done much quilting for myself this year. The fabric used was a practice piece to try out a new quilting design and I'll donate it to Project Linus, I guess.

Finally, A Post!

I tried to post this morning and blogger wasn't participating at all.

I was off work today for my birthday and it was a wonderful relaxing day. I took my Kia in for an oil change, myself in for a pedicure, and saw a movie this afternoon. I finished Lois' quilt, but haven't taken pics yet and have loaded another QOV.

Singer Sewing Cabinet Restoration

Here is the cabinet Dan bought for the Singer machine. He refinished it last weekend and I must say that it turned out very nice. I really don't have room for it in my sewing room, but hope to have a larger sewing room in the future where there will be lots of space.

A New Purse for Kathy

I made this purse for my daughter-in-law, Kathy, this week. We picked out the fabrics at Joann's a couple months ago and I'm just now getting around to making it. But, it's finished and she loves it. I intended to use the X-Bag pattern that I used to make my purse last year, but I couldn't find it. I may have donated it to the guild auction...so, I just winged it.

I also added a zipper to one of her outside pockets.

On Monday, I finished this vinyl amp cover for Dan. I sewed it on the new Singer and once I figured out the tension, it sewed perfectly.

Roberta's Quilts

I finished the first of 4 quilts from Roberta. Her mother pieced them and she wants them quilted to give to her 4 daughters. What a wonderful heirloom for them.

I gave her a couple of price options and she chose pantographs. I did think for a bit that I might go ahead and do light custom and charge her for the less expensive quilting. Do you ever do that? Now that I've got first one finished, I will do the rest in a similar manner.

Hobbs Poly batting, Permacore Eggshell thread and Fay Feathers panto.
