Adrienne's quilt

My friend Adrienne came over today and quilted a quilt that she pieced many years ago. She is giving this one to her brother, who will be visiting in the next couple of weeks.

She hasn't been here to quilt for months, but only took her about half a row of the panto to get back into the rhythm of quilting. It was so nice to catch up on everything going on in our lives these days.

Stashbusting Week #35

WOW, it's been a really long time since I've posted about my stash....

Fabric Used Year to Date - 124.5 yards

The fabric I purchased was for the pillowcases several weeks ago and then yesterday I bought nine 1/4 yard pieces for the crazy nine patch I assembled today.

Block of the Month at Cheryl's

Today was BOM day at Cheryl's Quilts and this months block was a log cabin. The block instructions called for a white center, but of course I didn't follow the directions. I thought I had read somewhere that the center should be red, signifying the chimney, so that's what I did. Sharon made her center red also, so I didn't feel so bad.

Design Wall Monday - August 23

This is on my design wall today and I hope to get the trees appliqued down this week. I completed the background of this quilt at our guild nickel workshop in May and when I got ready to work on it a few weeks later, I couldn't find the book to trace the tree shapes. I found it recently by my scanner. Hmmm, imagine that.

Leftover quilt finished

I finished the binding on this one yesterday, with a lot of help from Andrew and Elizabeth. It is twin size and I used the Feather Me pantograph by Merideth England, Permacore white thread and hobbs 80/20 batting.

I love the simplicity of this quilt made from leftovers. (and of course some stash of my muslin and wide backing fabric.)

Butterflies and Dragonflies

I quilt these 2 quilts for Brenda last Friday evening and Saturday morning. These disappearing 9-patch quilts use the same fabrics, just different placement.

One of the fabrics has butterflies and dragonflies on it and I just happen to have a pantograph with each of them. Angel wings by Jodi Beamish, and Large Dragonfly by Dave Hudson

And the back of one of them:

They both have Hobbs 80/20 batting and glide/permacore thread.

Happy Squares

I quilted this Happy Squares quilt this morning using Square Spiral by Keryn Emmerson.

Hobbs 80/20 batting and Permacore eggshell thread with Magna Glide bobbin. I'm probably going to sell this one on ebay or etsy. It was leftover scraps from a couple different projects.

Snapdragons

Janet gave me these nine-patch blocks and I assembled them with some muslin last week, and quilted it today using the pantograph Snapdragons by Patricia Ritter.

Very nice texture and an easy one to follow. Warm & White batting and PermaCore white thread.

Pillowcases and SPAM!

I finished 20 pillowcases this week.........10 for the booth and 10 for the One Million Pillowcase challenge.

I bought the flannel at the garage sale at Haan Crafts. the price was 3 yards for $2 and I got 5 different prints, 4 flannel and one cotton. I picked up some solid flannel at Joanns for the cuffs and made 4 pillowcases from each.

SPAM
I do believe that blogger has fixed the nasty spam comments. I get an email when a comment has been left and 3 times in the past week there has been an email with the spam. When I actually come to my blog to delete it, there isn't a comment, so somehow they are stopping them from actually appearing. YEA!!
EDIT: I just read about the new spam comment filter. What a great thing!!

Look what grew in our garden........and is it yummy!

A Couple More Quilted

The first one finished today belongs to Jan and I believe that it is the first quilt I've seen quilted using our nickels from our guild nickel swap.

Warm & Natural batting, Canary PermaCore thread and Lime Tree Panto by Keryn Emmerson.

And the back, which is flannel:

This next one was pieced by Betty and she intended it to be a QOV, but her husband really liked it. So, she said even though he was never in the military, he had always been her "knight in shining armour" so she is planning to give it to him. I really like the fabrics she used.

Warm & Natural batting, some new Signature poly thread, and Stars & Loops panto by LEQ.

And the back:

I've Been Busy!

I haven't been online, but I sure have been busy.

Lucky Me! I won a giveaway from Jill and am so happy to receive this book. She also sent two cute-as-can-be FQs. Thanks So much Jill! I can't wait to start on the book and also looking forward to meeting you in Shipshewana in October.

I made these 4-patch coasters and bibs for our booth

I put these nine patch blocks that Janet gave me together and will quilt this little quilt for the booth.

Here is a photo of Brenda's Wild Flowers quilt that I finished last week:

It doesn't look so "wild" when you see the whole quilt, does it?

Back to Mabel where I will be finishing Jan's Nickel Quilt, and speaking of nickels, today is a nickel sorting day....see you soon, Janet, Shelly and Tammy!

Dan's Back and A Baby Quilt

I only worked for an hour this morning and then came home to care for Dan, who has pulled something in his back again. He spent most of Friday through today resting with ice and lots of Advil and Tylenol. He got in to see Dr. Clark this afternoon and is feeling much better. He will still not be able to go to work, but I'll feel ok leaving him for the day tomorrow now that he can walk again.

I did get a chance to load and quilt this lovely quilt made by Peggy and Kathy. I believe it's for a co-worker expecting a baby. Isn't it just cute as can be? I love how the secondary designs come out. Sometimes I see stars and sometimes I see square-in-a-square.

Daisy Swirl panto, Permacore eggshell thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting.

And the back:

Brenda's Wild Flowers

That's the name I've given this quilt. It sure is bright! It rained here tonight, so no good shot of the quilt outside yet.

I used Lava Colorburst thread to quilt the swirls in the crazy blocks and triangles, and also the meander around the flowers.

The borders are PermaCore Eggshell thread, and a panto called Spin by Jodi Beamish, and I took the quilt off and reloaded it to get the side borders. Lots of extra work, but I like how it turned out.

The flowers have So Fine thread and I did an echo sort-of in the petals. I told her that I wasn't going to try to outline them and she was happy with that. It's for one of her granddaughters and there will be 2 more coming using the same fabrics, but different designs.

Design Wall - August 9, 2010

Well, once again my design wall looks very much like last weeks, and the week before. Although the center is all sewn together this week, which means that I stitched the 4 seams connecting the 5 pairs of rows.

Certainly not a lot of sewing, but....here's my design floor:

I made these pullover bibs to put in the booth that Janet and I have at Klassy Klutter, an indoor flea market. They are fingertip towels with the designs already on them. I just cut the hole and added the ribbing. Wonder how much someone would pay for one of these. I have another 10 of them finished, but I haven't laid them out for a photo opp.

PS - Julie, does Elizabeth need any of these bibs?

The Pedicure!

The title should be, "The Pedicure That Wasn't Meant To Be!"

Julie gave me a gift certificate for a pedicure at Loves for Mother's Day this year. On my birthday I scheduled a pedicure, my very first one at a salon. Went to pay for it and that's when I realized I was at the wrong salon. I was at Christina's, so I paid for it and put the gift certificate away. I'm not sure why I made the appoointment there, but, oh well I very much enjoyed it.

This week I thought about that pedicure, so I called and made an appointment at Loves for today at 1:00pm. I arrived a couple minutes early and checked in at the desk. I was told to look over the polish colors and pick one, then have a seat and the nail tech would be with me in a few minutes. The girl at the desk left the desk and there were several people in and out of the desk during the next 20 minutes. As soon as 1:20 passed, I got up and walked out. I was very irritated and I knew that if I stayed, it wouldn't be pleasant. If the person scheduled to do my nails was busy, I would have understood if someone had let me know. I kind-of expected a call from them, but nobody called.

When I was at Christina's I did have to wait a couple minutes, but even then, the reciptionist asked if I would like something to drink. I barely had time to open a magazine before she was ready.

NICU Quilts

Carole sent these 6 fabrics to be quilted for NICU quilts. the first 4 are flannel and are oh so soft. Probably the softest flannel I've ever seen and such cute fabrics. Warm & Natural batting and PermaCore Eggshell thread in all three.

Design Wall Monday - August 2, 2010

Well, my design wall looks very similar to last weeks.
I have sewn sashing to all the rows and have sewn pairs of rows together. Why didn't I make much progress, you ask?

Well, I work from 8-5 M-F as a graphic designer at a printing company. Evenings and over the weekend here's what I quilted for customers. All afternoon Saturday, a friend was over to quilt one of hers, so I didn't get anything quilted during that time.

It was a BUSY week!

Roberta's Antique Quilt Tops

I finished quilting the last 2 quilts for Roberta this weekend. I used a Hobbs poly batting and really wish I had used 80/20 because I'm not fond of the puffiness.

This one was quilted with the Button Flower panto by Keryn Emmerson, and Permacore White thread. I'm not sure of the name of this pattern, but it is really pretty.

This one had lots of fullness in the center and I quilted a freehand e's & o's meander, denser within the star. It looks like she started out trying to use the colors of the fabrics in the star and then gave up and stitched them randomly.

I have stitched the binding on by machine and will hand stitch the other sides this week. I'm sure Roberta's daughters will be quite happy with these heirlooms.
