Maureen's Quilt of Valor

Maureen from Michigan made this cute quilt of valor. This is her second QOV top and only her third quilt ever made. It's a beautiful quilt !

I chose Stars and loops panto, white PermaCore thread and Hobbs 80/20 bleached batting.

Design Wall Monday

I know, it's Tuesday, and late in the day, at that! I just got around to taking a photo of my design wall. I started a Braid quilt by Eleanor Burns. Her sister, Pat Knoechel, was our speaker at guild last week and she showed a few of these quilts and they were beautiful! I'm sure I'm not the only one working on them this week. Viki already has hers put together!

The fabrics in this one are from Batiks Plus. We were able to visit their warehouse in St. Louis and all these came from the scrap bins. They range from 6" strips to almost half yards.

The bright ones on the left are for my Baby Jane quilt that hasn't seen the light of day in over a year. Someday soon.....

These fabrics are from Jackman's. A few for the old Tippe Guild Mystery Quilt and the giraffes for a backing for a baby quilt and the other one, just because liked it and it was on the sale table.

Retreat Fun

I'm at an annual retreat in St Louis and boy am I getting a lot done! Here's my first finish, although I may add borders.

If I had a place like this to walk, I would do it every morning!

Laura's Baby Quilt

Laura made this darling quilt for her granddaughter, Chloe. She had baby shower participants decorate a square of paper and then she hand embroidered their designs onto these squares. The colors in this first photo are not very true. The second one is closer.

She had the quilt tied, but was worried that it wouldn't hold up. We decided on the panto Daisy Swirl and I used So Fine and Bottom Line threads along with Hobbs 80/20 bleached batting.

It is an heirloom for sure!

What's Going On Around Here?

Not really a question, just a few things to blog about. I've been very bad about blogging lately.

Tomorrow I'm driving to Indy to attend the Indiana Blue Star Salute. I've never attended this event, but I'm told it will be a fun day.

I got this fabric cut up to make another quilt. Here's a peek at them before the stitching started.

Speaking of peeks....here's a peek at Laura's baby shower quilt. She had attendees write out their sentiments and then she embroidered them, exactly as written. What a cute idea!! What a lot of work, but so worth it.

Rosemary's Dresden Plates

My online friend Rosemary made this beautiful quilt. One lucky little girl will receive a very pretty quilt?

Just look at all the different batiks!

I quilted a large meander in the outer border, swirls in the sashing and a small meander in the block backgrounds. The dresden plates got a continuous line of loops going around and then in the center also.

The Class of 1972 Jefferson High School Reunion Quilt

Lacey's Way is the pattern we used for this quilt. I use that term loosely, as it was the inspiration for the quilt, however we did not use the pattern, per se.

When we were looking for a pattern on google images, this one caught our eye. I found out the name of the pattern and the designer. I emailed the designer and asked which of the 3 sizes listed was shown on the front of the pattern. Her reply was Lap size. Using the dimensions shown and her reply, I figured the blocks must be 8" and set 6 x 8. I drew out the block in Illustrator and this is what I came up with.

I wanted to make sure that was correct, so I emailed the designer back and asked her if I could purchase that pattern and have it sent via email. She agreed, I paid via PayPal and she emailed the file along with a warning that it was a copyrighted pattern and I was not to copy or share it with anyone.

I could see that it had a copyright as it was printed on the pattern and was a bit irritated by her warning to me. I did, after all pay for it and I can't remember a time when I purchased a pattern in a quilt shop and was warned about copying it.

So, I open the pattern and the block size is 12"!!!!
Which means that the quilt on the front cover is not a LAP QUILT, but a QUEEN SIZE. The lap quilt has only 24 blocks and I think you would lose a lot of the graphic punch with those large blocks and only 24 of them.

So, we used my cutting dimensions and her pattern has been filed away.

I designed the back to commemorate our 40th class reunion and one lucky classmate will go home with it after the reunion.

Playing Catch Up

Last Friday, Jeni came over and we loaded the class reunion quilt, got it quilted and stitched on the first side of the binding and she took it home to hand sew the binding. I can't wait to see it finished. We have a meeting tomorrow evening and I'm sure the committee will be wowed by our efforts. I designed the backing and love how it turned out. The only part of the back I'm not totally happy with is the Broncho. I printed it on Printed Treasures and the longarm needle is just too big for that fabric. I hope the holes close up a bit, but I'm pretty sure they won't. I had forgotten about that issue.

I decided on Bountiful Feathers for the quilting design and Jeni agreed. The thread isn't actually that white, it caught the light just right.

Another 1600 Quilt for Joann

Joann made another 1600 quilt and this one is for a grandson who is graduating, I believe. Her borders made this one quite large and it sure is pretty.

She chose Stars and Loops panto because some of the fabrics have stars. I always like to do this one as it's pretty mindless for me. Sometimes I wonder if I could do it with my eyes closed. Maybe I'll try it someday on one of my quilts.

Beverly's shirt quilt

Beverly brought this top for me to quilt and she didn't say so, but I'm pretty sure the plaid and seersucker fabrics on this quilt are from shirts. I don't think she's a quilter, but rather a quilt collector.

She wanted something special in the solid blocks and we chose a square feathered wreath. The pieced blocks have continuous curves and the border is spineless feathers.
I used Omni thread and a poly batting.

Janet's Big Red Squares

Janet pieced this quilt of one hundred 9" red and white squares in Shipshewana.

She chose Feather Me panto and I used PermaCore White thread and Hobbs 80/20 bleached batting.

And the back....even Janet said it looks like a tablecloth.

Design Wall Monday

I really had to work to get something up here tonight. I have a t-shirt quilt for a co-workers daughter that I needed to get started on.  These six blocks have been fused to interfacing and cut to 12.5" square.

The other 30+ shirt pieces are still right here!

Mary's Row-by-Row

Last year our guild had a three groups of row-by-rows. Mary made this beautiful one. She wanted an all-over design and I chose Bountiful Feathers.

The fabrics are pretty and the rows are cute as can be.
