And here are all of her rows so far. She ran out of background fabric before I got her tote, so mine is the only one with the new background. Maybe she'll make 2 quilts? or maybe not.

What a busy night!

Last night was Old Tippe guild - the business meeting and show 'n tell. There wasn't a lot of show 'n tell, so the meeting wasn't very long. There was a Quilt Show Committee Meeting afterwards, so I still got home at about the same time. I did get all the papers off the paper pieced blocks from yesterday while I was at the meeting.

When I arrived home, I got them all sewn together for Lisa's row-by-row. It turned out really nice. The pattern is at Quilters Cache and is called Duck Tracks.



The second second thing I worked on is this block, Pinwheel #8, from Quilters Cache also, is a presidents block for our outgoing president at Common Threads. Our meeting is tonight so it's a good thing I got it finished. This pattern is one that I tested for Marcia a while back. I needed an 8" finished block, so I put the pieces together and trimmed each of the quarter blocks to 4.5" and then sewed them together. A great way to decrease the size of this block.


EDIT: This shows how I cut the block segments. Of course, the ones that I did last night were not already sewn together as this block is, but they were in 4 segments. I laid the 4.5" ruler on top and aligned the 2.25 mark directly in the center of the intersecting triangles. I made sure that my corners were square with the seams and trimmed.

Memories of Marlene blocks

I have joined a group of online friends to make quilts to honor our friend Marlene, who passed away on January 23rd. Marlene loved reproduction fabrics and that's what we're using to make 3 different blocks for each person, so a total of 30 blocks. I finished my first 10 blocks yesterday and am quite happy with them. Last week I purchased a few FQs to use as the outside triangles, but decided to just use muslin instead.

Catching Up On Some Blocks

Will you look at this? Here it is only the 5th of the month and I already have my JudyL's Star Block finished. I think this is the quickest I have finished one of these.

Those cutting instructions which include 16ths are a pain in the ___, but I have to admit that they sure do make a pretty block. And they are not that hard to cut once you wrap your brain around the fact that you cut in-between the marks, not on the marks. Here it is....Block #11:


I also worked on a quilterscache test block this evening and I'm sure Marcia will have it up in a day or so. The instructions for this one were perfect, as they usually are.

Now, I must go finish a couple of wallets for Dottie.

Pinwheel #8

Here is the test block that I did for quilterscache.com and the instructions.



And here is what I'm thinking....... I have a round robin that I need to put a border on and this block went together so nicely that I think I could make a dozen or so more in no time and use them for my border. Through the wonders of Photoshop, I have added a thin aqua border and a border of these blocks and then a red border. the border of the pinwheel blocks would be scrappy rather than all alike. Any suggestions out there????



Next week at this time I will have spent my first night at the retreat and will be having a wonderful time sewing with my daughter, Julie. I hope I remember to take lots of pictures.

Geocaching

Dan has a new hobby and here is a brief explanation of it from wazoogle.
Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for GPS users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capabilities of a GPS (Global Positioning System) . The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is; if they take something from the cache, they should try to leave something for the cache. There is usually a log book in the cache to fill out with your name and date of the find. The cache itself could be as large as a Tupperware container or as small as a matchbox.

Dan asked me for a quilt block to leave in the box, so I wrote "Ruthie's Quilting, Lafayette, IN" on a piece of ribbon and stitched it on the back of this block.

As long as I'm talking about caches.

I have been pretty busy in the past few months and have taken a bit longer than I wanted to getting my test blocks done. There were 2 different sizes this time and I was on a roll and stayed up past midnight sewing. I took a picture of them the next morning and whoops, I guess it doesn't pay to sew after midnight.



Yep, I had to do some frogging.........Cute blocks, but here is what they are supposed to look like.

Hmm...........Geocache / Quilterscache, I wonder if there are any quilters out there playing the geocache game?
