Looky what came to my house today!

Hobbs Batting! Lots of it!



I was planning to order some charity batting from Hobbs and talked to someone there and they suggested I place an order of at least 180 pounds and they would send it by truck for $150. That price comes out to .833 cents per pound, which makes a 96" roll ship for less than $14. Of course, I'm not going to use all of this. Some of it was ordered for other longarmers in the area.

Not Much Going On Here!

I can't believe I haven't posted since Wednesday. I guess there's not much happening around here. I have lots of quilts hanging in the studio to be quilted, but I've been piecing a few of my own things.

Yesterday Tammy, Shelly and I went to the Frankfort Guild's Quilt Show. What a nice little show it was. Lots of hand quilted items and our friend Helen had several quilts in it that she made and several more that she did the quilting on. Lunch at Arni's and then a stop at Hobby Lobby on the way home where Shelly picked up a few more scotties figurines and ornaments for her collection.

Carole picked up 2 of her quilts today and dropped off 2 more. One of them she wants some trapunto done and that's something I haven't tried. I think she has a lot of faith in my abilities and tends to get me to quilt outside of my little box!

I have all the blocks done for my courthouse stars quilt, although I have nowhere to lay them all out to get them all in a picture. Without any borders it will be 91x91 so I may not add borders.

I can't remember who's blog I saw the photo of one of these on, but I really liked it and drew out the pattern in Illustrator and took strips with me to camp. I had all the courthouse steps blocks finished before I left and worked on the stars this past week. I'm anxious to start putting them together.

Edit: I just figured out where I saw this one, it was on Connie's blog, and she got it from Karen's.



I also made 15 more of these Pinwheel #8 blocks. I was planning to put an aqua/green narrow border around the center of the top, but now I think I may use a red instead. The spaces between the blocks will be white sashing strips.

Susie is the designer of this Circus Clowns pattern, which we modified to make the guild birthday quilt. Surely, someone out there knows how to contact her.....

Welcome Wall Hanging and Fat Quarters

The welcome wall hanging in my last post was made using "Flower Welcome" by Bloom Creek, it's 12" x 28" and I purchased it at Rossville Quilts. I don't think Marcia has patterns on the website, but you could sure call her and order it. The fabric is Moda Summer Basket of Flowers, a Charm Pack I purchased a while back from Hancocks of Paducah for $3.98.

Here is the Fat Quarter Tower I purchased at camp, KANSAS TROUBLES GARDEN INSPIRATION, along with the pattern that I intended to use. I may change my mind about the pattern and use something more traditional.

More about the Retreat

I forgot to include this wall hanging in the projects I worked on at the retreat. I used a charm pack and the applique is by machine, using the blind hem stitch, with a stitch length of .5 and width set to 4.



When I was stitching last night, I thought my machine sounded kind of funny, so I took off the plate and WOW, just look at that lint.



I uses Superior prewound bobbins and Connecting Threads Essentials thread on top. I know that essentials doesn't have lots of lint, so it must be those bobbins. I got really brave and took off the bottom plate also.


Yikes - it's a wonder it worked at all. It's all vacumed up and shiney now.

Back to Quilting....
I finished this quilt for Gwen tonight and really like the way it turned out. It's all freehand with Line dancing in the blocks, a curve, a loop and another curve in the sashing, CCs in the cornerstones and beadboard in the outer border. I have lots of threads to bury, which I'll do tomorrow evening.
