Janet's Bug Jar Quilt

I finished Janet's bug jar quilt last night and then Dan and I had a discussion about why someone would make a bug jar quilt.........do you remember catching lightening bugs or any other kind of bugs in jars when you were a kid? Lightening bugs were a big deal in my neighborhood here in Indiana and more than once I had to be told to take them outside.

Anyway, here's the quilt, done with the Circle Lord swirls templates, Hobbs 80/20 batting and Permacore white thread.

Look at this cute backing fabric:

I LOVED catching lightening bugs when I was young! My husband grew up out on the west coast (and that's where we currently reside) and when we lived in KY all of the lightening bugs totally freaked him out! He thought it was just something made up for the movies and books ~ he had no idea they were for real!!! HA!!

Oh yes....I remember when I was a kid catching lightening bugs and putting them in a jar when visiting Indiana and using it as my "nite lite".

i think i may have seen a firefly last year in my neighbor's lawn, but it might have just been an ember from someone's barbeque ... and a few summers ago, after i mowed and watered the lawn, i thought i saw three fireflies in the grass ... but i was drinking blackberry wine, so maybe it was just my imagination.
