More Retreat Stuff

Here's a new Zippy Strippy Jelly Roll video, with sound, thanks to Dan.



I took a map of the states we all came from and everyone pinned a strip of paper with their name on it. It was great to see where we were all from.



The Good Witch of Shipshe was at the retreat with us also. Quilters could bring a book or pattern to trade and when the witch appeared at your sewing area, you could go pick your book or pattern.

My Retreat Projects

I started working on a very old mystery quilt from Becca's blog.

I cheated!, there, I said it! I looked at the last clue. I decided that I didn't really care for it in the fabrics I had started with. When I pulled the pieces out of the tote, Janet asked if it was a Chinese Coins quilt and that got me thinking about it. I spent WAY TOO LONG figuring out how to make it look random. But, I love the outcome!



Then I pulled out these lotto blocks that I won at Spring Break at Mardi Gras. I added green sashing, setting triangles and a couple borders. I may quilt this one and donate it to the guild auction next year. Or I may decide I want to keep it.



Saturday afternoon I worked on my Zippy Strippy quilt, which still needs borders.



I also put together four 10-minute blocks. I picked up a few fat quarters from the boat at Lolly's to make some more.

S U C C E S S

Our retreat at Shipshewana was a huge success. Everyone had a great time and we really enjoyed the spacious room. 56 quilters each had an 8' table to use. There were 4 other tables in our room to use for cutting or laying out a quilt. We only had one brief power outage for a row of tables, but that was quickly taken care of.

Our breakfast at the Farmstead Inn was better than I remember from last year. They have added a waffle maker and serve biscuits and gravy and sausage patties, along with the regular continental breakfast items.

The pies at The Blue Gate were yummy, as were the pretzels at JoJo's, and the cupcakes at the Garden Gate Cafe. There's just not enough time to eat every place we wanted to and get in major time stitching.

We got some instruction from Angie to make Zippy-Strippy quilts(AKA 1600 quilts) and there were some really nice looking quilts. Lots of fun!!!

Our show-n-tell was held in one of the lounge areas. We laid our quilts out and all walked around to see them up-close-and-personal. I think this method is much nicer than holding them up at one end of the room.



We already have our reservation made for Oct. 18-21, 2012 and Oct. 17-20, 2013, and the registration form will be up within the week. See you then!

Shipshewana 2011

Today's the last day to make your reservation at the Farmstead Inn if you're intending to come to the retreat. There are 5 rooms remaining in the block I had reserved and they will be released at 5PM today.

We will have over 50 quilters from at least 6 states and will have a great time. So, if you've been thinking about it, just let me know and the registration form is HERE.

Retreat Door Prizes

The past few days have brought great door prize donations for Spring Break at Mardi Gras. It is wonderful to know that even in these tough times, quilting supply vendors and quilt shops are still willing to send a donation. This weeks goodies are from June Taylor, Walmart, Nancy's Notions, Olfa, and Pieced Together Quilt Shop in Fort Wayne. Thank you so much!!

We are down in numbers a bit from last year, but we still have 37 guild members attending.

Speaking of retreats....
There is still space available at the Shipshewana retreat October 27-30, 2011. The link to the registration form is at the right and all you need to do is send $20 per person to me, and make your room reservation at The Farmstead Inn.

Shipshewana 2011 Good News-Bad News

I've made our reservation for the Shipshewana 2011 retreat and for you, it may be good news, or it may be bad news.

The dates are October 27-30, 2011.

I got lots of replys from the retreaters this year and this date is the one chosen by most. There were a few that could not attend this weekend, and I certainly hope that you can attend in 2012, when the dates will be October 18-21, 2012.

If you did not attend the retreat this year, here are some of the details:

We will be staying at the Farmstead Inn and will be using the conference rooms to sew in. The guest rooms have 2 queen beds and a roll-away bed can be brought in for an $8 charge.
Continental Breakfast is served each morning and you are on your own for lunch and dinner. We all bring snacks for the snack table and I will provide soft drinks and bottled water. The big difference this year is that I will be collecting a Retreat Fee of $20 per person to cover the sewing room, drinks and other necessities.

I have reserved a block of 25 rooms and you will be making your own reservations with the Farmstead Inn. This will make it much easier for you to make a change in roommates, if needed.
Please make your reservations as soon as you can, as when the 25 rooms are books, I don't know if we can get more.
