Grandma's Kitchen Sew Along

I know, I know, I have plenty of UFOs to finish, but I just couldn't resist Pat Sloan's new Sew Along Grandma's Kitchen. When I saw the first post about it, I was thinking of the shoe tote with Amish With A Twist leftovers. I took these fabrics to Butler with me for Crazy Mom's workshop but changed my mind and used the Scrap Bag Challenge fabrics.

My Grandparents lived in Green Bay, WI and we only visited a few times each year, usually holidays. I don't ever remember them coming to Indiana, but they may have. Grandma's house was spotless. "A place for everything and everything in it's place" was her motto. I actually lived with them for a month in the second grade while my mom was in the hospital. My job each week was to dust the baseboards. I don't recall my mother dusting the baseboards weekly, but again, maybe I just don't remember.

Another funny memory was at holiday dinners, all 6 of my girl cousins and I ate in our slips. Our fancy dresses were removed and a napkin was tucked into our slips. I'll have to see if I have any photos of those dinners.

Anyway, back to my block.
Solid fabrics make the neatest, crispest blocks. I'm pretty happy with my first block.

Weekend Retreat

The planning committee for Commn Threads Spring Break retreat had a weekend retreat to do some planning and get our ducks all in a row for the upcoming Route 66 retreat. We traveled a little over an hour to River Retreat Center in Perrysville, IN.  Very nice one story house for up to 10 quilters. The owners were great to work with. Will probably be back.

I finished the Amish With a Twist 3 quilt.

Added top-stitching on these birthday table runners.

Added the last border piece to this little quilt. I'll have to search my blog to find out the details of this one. I do know it has been in my sewing room for some time, miss new one side of the border. I found that strip of fabric when I sorted my Christmas fabric last week.

I made some progress on my ongoing leader/ender project.

Tomorrow it's back to customer quilting.

Amish With A Twist II

One of our customers here at The National Group sent me a photo of a quilt this past summer and said this is the next quilt he wanted me to make for him. The Little scrap Quilt Shop in Kokomo did a program for our guild shortly after that and they had one of these tops finished. They also had just one kit left. I purchased the kit and took it with me to Old Tippe's Quilt Retreat in September. It was missing some fabric, so I packed it away and worked on some other projects. They sent the missing fabrics and I got a  started on it at home.

I had everything cut out and took it with me to Shipshewana last week, where I worked on it for over 29 hours Thursday-Sunday. The top was finished a little before 10AM Sunday. Whew!!!

I loaded it and quilted it on Monday evening and applied the binding Tuesday and Wednesday evenings while watching some TV.

Bountiful Feathers is the quilting design, Lite Tan Omni thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting. He is coming to pick it up tomorrow and I hope he loves it as much as I do.
