Big Quilts Week

This has been the week for big quilts at Ruthie's Quilting.

The first one was 114 x 104 and made by Carolyn. It's a Storm at Sea quilt for her daughter Andrea who is getting married next month.

We chose edge-to-edge feathers and I think it's beautiful! What a lovely wedding gift for a daughter.

The next one was 104 x 97 and made by Pam.

Beautiful fabrics were used to make this stunning quilt.

Pam chose Tea Rose panto and Sandlewood Omni thread.

Julie's Star Quilt

About 7 years ago, (yes, it really has been that long) I won a $250 gift certificate from the Fat Quarter Shop. I won this because I used the most fabric in the prior year's Stashbusting Club. We would report on our blog how much fabric we used and how much we bought. That entire previous year I only bought fabric if I needed it to finish a project and I was astonished at the end of the year that I had purchased over 100 yards. I would have guessed that I normally purchased about 100 yards/year on an average. I think I had estimated really low. Anyway, my daughter Julie helped me spend my gift certificate and this fabric and pattern was part of that. She worked on the quilt at retreats only and finished it at our Spring Break this year. I finally loaded it this week and finish it up this morning before she came to visit.

It's quilted with Bountiful Feathers, Omni Lite Tan thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting.

 

She did an excellent job at piecing. It's just beautiful!! Great job Julie!

Julie's Quilt In A Day braid

Lois' friend Julie made this very pretty Quilt In A Day Braid quilt. The fabrics are so pretty and springlike. Makes me want to make another one of these, too.

I considered custom quilting for this one, but ended up with Bountiful Feathers for the quilting, Hobbs 80/20 batting and Lite Spearmint Omni thread.

Amish With A Twist II

One of our customers here at The National Group sent me a photo of a quilt this past summer and said this is the next quilt he wanted me to make for him. The Little scrap Quilt Shop in Kokomo did a program for our guild shortly after that and they had one of these tops finished. They also had just one kit left. I purchased the kit and took it with me to Old Tippe's Quilt Retreat in September. It was missing some fabric, so I packed it away and worked on some other projects. They sent the missing fabrics and I got a  started on it at home.

I had everything cut out and took it with me to Shipshewana last week, where I worked on it for over 29 hours Thursday-Sunday. The top was finished a little before 10AM Sunday. Whew!!!

I loaded it and quilted it on Monday evening and applied the binding Tuesday and Wednesday evenings while watching some TV.

Bountiful Feathers is the quilting design, Lite Tan Omni thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting. He is coming to pick it up tomorrow and I hope he loves it as much as I do.

Dottie's Embroidered Quilt

Dottie embroidered these blocks and they look fantastic.

The alternating blocks are 4-Patch Posie blocks.

I chose Bountiful Feathers as the quilting pattern and used a cream Omni thread.

Kathy's Lily & Will Blue and Brown

Kathy pieced another quilt with these beautiful fabrics. The last two she used the pink and brown of this Bunny Hill Designs by Moda line.

 She chose the same quilting, Bountiful Feathers, which looks spectacular on these soft fabrics.

Warm & Natural batting and Omni Cream thread.

Kathy's Baby Quilt

Kathy is a new customer of mine and her quilt was a joy to quilt. Very precise piecing and such yummy fabrics.

She chose Bountiful Feathers panto and I think it works so well with this very pretty baby quilt. I used Dyed Natural PermaCore thread and Warm & Natural batting that she provided.

Carla's Panel Quilt #1

Carla made 3 of these quilts, but all of them are a bit different. She took apart a panel and stitched it back together with borders on the blocks and then borders around the whole thing.

A very cute panel and another one that I hadn't seen before. I chose Bountiful Feathers for this one, light tan Omni thread and Hobbs 80/20 bleached batting.

Jan's Bricks Quilt

A guild member who has had a multitude of medical problems posted a plea to members to finish a quilt she had started. Lish volunteered to do the piecing, I stepped up to do the quilting, and Sharon will be doing the binding.

The pattern is Bricks and she used lots of nickels from our guild exchanges.

I chose Bountiful Feathers, Lava thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting.I considered using a black batting, but decided not to. I was concerned at how the white fabrics would look.

Stacey's Civil War Quilt

Stacey started this quilt years ago and it was a block of the month at Quilter's Harvest.
By the way, Quilter's Harvest is going out of business. They have been trying to sell the business for a couple years now, and haven't had any luck, so they are just selling everything and closing their doors. It's sad that we will no longer have a quilt shop locally. There is Rossville Quilts, but it's a stretch for me to run out there on my lunch hour. Anyway, back to Stacey's quilt...

In between the time that she started this and now, she has gone back to school and gotten a degree in nursing, so her time has been spent studying rather than quilting. But, she got it back out and finished it up. There are 2 of each block in different colors and it is just lovely.

She chose Bountiful Feathers, and I used Omni Light Tan thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting.

It was a joy to quilt as it laid nice and flat. She was so tickled to show it at guild last night that she let two other members hold it up so she could see it too.  It's good to see you back at guild Stacey!

Mary's Tumbler Quilt

Mary made this great tumbler quilt using lots of reproductions fabrics. She has a lot of antiques in her beautiful house and it will look wonderful there.

Playing Catch Up

Last Friday, Jeni came over and we loaded the class reunion quilt, got it quilted and stitched on the first side of the binding and she took it home to hand sew the binding. I can't wait to see it finished. We have a meeting tomorrow evening and I'm sure the committee will be wowed by our efforts. I designed the backing and love how it turned out. The only part of the back I'm not totally happy with is the Broncho. I printed it on Printed Treasures and the longarm needle is just too big for that fabric. I hope the holes close up a bit, but I'm pretty sure they won't. I had forgotten about that issue.

I decided on Bountiful Feathers for the quilting design and Jeni agreed. The thread isn't actually that white, it caught the light just right.

Mary's Row-by-Row

Last year our guild had a three groups of row-by-rows. Mary made this beautiful one. She wanted an all-over design and I chose Bountiful Feathers.

The fabrics are pretty and the rows are cute as can be.

Hobbs 80/20 batting and PermaCore Mother Goose thread.

Pam's Quilt

Every once in a while I surprise myself. I caught on to doing pantographs when I first got my machine and I still love doing them. But, there are some quilts, and quilters, that deserve custom quilting. This one is just one of those!



Pam's quilt is square as can be, her piecing is perfection and the fabrics are just yummy!



She wanted feathers, CCs, and stippling. She said she like lots of quilting, so here is what I came up with.



I used So Fine/Bottom Line and I'm ever so happy that I picked up a spool of thread at their booth in Cincinnati, because I ran out of the cone I was using. The spool is a shade darker than the cone, but worked just fine. I was so mad at myself for not checking before the bus trip, but it worked out.



And the back.....almost looks as good as the front!

Dancing With The Stars

Not the TV show, but Rosemary's latest quilt. We chose feathers, Bountiful Feathers to be exact. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love this pantograph. It was very windy outside this evening, ao I don't have a great photo.



I think it's a great fit for this quilt too. Quilters Dream cotton batting and Permacore Khaki thread.
