Design Wall

Last week I received my exchange blocks from Quiltmaker's Block Party in Williamsburg, Virginia. I'm pretty happy with the blocks and will probably make a Quilt of Valor with them.

Mine is the block in the center.

Design Wall Monday

Here's one more project from the weekend.

My guild had an I-spy hexagon exchange earlier this year. There were 10 of us and we each chose 10 fabrics and cut a hexagon from each of them for each participant, so we all ended up with the same 100 hexagons.

I chose a yellow fabric to go with mine and I think I will add a narrow border with the yellow and then another narrow border in a contrasting color and then the final border. I have to look at it for awhile to see what other colors I might like.

Design Wall (floor) Tuesday

I know it's Tuesday again, but here is my design floor. I've outgrown the wall and now, most of the sewing room floor. I have begun to stitch the blocks together in diagonal rows.

There are going to be 2 and a half more rounds of dark brown blocks and then it's done.
I have this many ready to tear the paper off of and then about 30 more to make.

Here's my fabric choices for Quiltmaker's Block Exchange. My colors are to be Americana and I pulled all these from my stash.

Design Wall Monday

I really had to work to get something up here tonight. I have a t-shirt quilt for a co-workers daughter that I needed to get started on.  These six blocks have been fused to interfacing and cut to 12.5" square.

The other 30+ shirt pieces are still right here!

Design Wall Monday

Much the same as last week, except the rows are sewn together and borders added to top and bottom. This one is my H2H quilt and needs to be finished this week, so I'll surely have a finished quilt to show soon!

Design Wall Monday #2

What a difference a day makes, or even 13 hours.

This is what my design wall looks like now:

I took the red and black blocks down because I need to wait for Jeni to help and put up my Hands 2 Help challenge.
I decided to use a tutorial on JudyL's blog. It's one that she will be giving feather instructions for in June. I will go ahead and quilt it because it needs to be mailed by the end of the month.

I opted to have another quilter choose my fabric palette and I was partnered with Kathleen, who chose this as my palette:

We used Design Seeds as our inspiration for this challenge.

Design Wall Monday

I'm very excited to show this one. It's just a start, cut it's going to be a great quilt. Jeni and I will be making this quilt for our 40th Class Reunion. Our colors were red and black and we looked at lots of red and black quilt photos and chose this one. The pattern is Lacey's Way, but I'm not using the instructions for the pattern. That's a long story for another post.
The blocks are not sewn together yet, just on the design wall.

Design Wall Monday

I pulled out some disappearing 9-patch blocks to start on a Quilt of Valor.

Design Wall Monday

My design wall looks much like it did about a month ago!

I finished the new project this weekend and it's on it's way home today, but I can't show it to you yet.

The Starry Eyed quilt has 10 blocks completed and many more partially complete.

The one on the wall is for Carol and I'm appliqueing fussy cut fairy squares to the borders.

Design Wall Monday

My design wall is much like it was last Monday, the Starry Eyed quilt is still in progress.

My sewing machine table is another story, as I've started another project and the Starry Eyed quilt will have to come down.

Design Wall Monday

Lotto Blocks for the Retreat

Here are my blocks for the lotto at the retreat. The theme is Spring Break in vegas, so of course, we had to make a card trick block. I actually used this tutorial that I found with some some really great instructions for this block. You cut the pieces larger in this one. The exact cutting come after piecing each of the nine-patch sections.

The other two are just nine patches, but I think they all look great together.

Design Wall Tuesday

Yep, It's Tuesday, and I'm just posting my design wall. Here's a nice closeup of one of the blocks from a few weeks ago with some applique pieces on it. I have border fabric ordered from Hancocks of Paducah and it should be here later this week. Then I can get it quilted.

The bias stems have Steam-a-Seam ironed on the back side and I purchased a heat resistant piece of plastic at Joanns, traced the shape of the stem and cut that part away. So, I could lay my stem down in the cut away part and iron it down without tracing on my block or using some other method. This idea worked pretty well for me, but that plastic does get very hot so you have to move your fingers quickly.

Design Wall Monday

Yesterday it looked like this:

Today it looks like this:

When making these blocks, I found it useful to crease the blocks in order to place the traingles is just the right place. Worked like a charm!

Design Wall Monday

There is something on my design wall for a change. It feels really good to be working on something for myself and I know it will be finished rather quickly because the quilt show will be here before I know it.

These blocks are just placed on the design wall and will not be going together this was, but I think they look great like this!

Design Wall Monday

Actually, my design wall is empty once again. I finished the quilt that was on there last Monday. It was quilted on Friday and bound Saturday morning and gifted at the shower in the afternoon.

I used the Drip panto to complete the water theme.

She seemed to like it when she opened it, especially the label, which was just a preprinted one that I signed.

Design Wall Monday

The only sewing I've done for myself this past week has been making a quilt for a baby shower on Saturday. The baby's room is done in an underwater theme and I think this wave quilt will go just fine. It's going together pretty quickly, so it should be done by the weekend.

Some of these fabrics are half yard cuts from the Fabric Frenzy at Paducah in April.

Design Wall Monday

Well, at least the flying geese are off the design wall, but those blue blocks are still there along with the applique pillows for Calise.

Design Wall Monday

Still those flying geese on my design wall, but actually late last night I took one strip down and stitched them onto my quilt. The new blocks on the left are for a new project.

Design Wall Monday

I've been working back and forth, between these two quilts.

The red one for Jeff and Dané now only needs one more border. (Thanks Judy for the border ideas!)

The flying geese for the next Scrap Squad quilt. I'm making mine queen size, so I need a lot more than the 96 in the pattern.

Design Wall Monday

Last week's design wall(floor) stayed that way until yesterday. I wanted to have a post for today, so I got busy after spending the afternoon at the movie, seeing "The Help" with Janet and Randy. It was a great movie!

I took apart the 12" rows and added 6-8" pieces to make up the needed space. I used that butterfly backing fabric for the corners.

I may just load this one and quilt it today.

It was 11pm when I finished and Dan was in bed, but I was wide awake, so I pulled out the blocks for Jeff and Dané's new king size quilt and started sewing them together.

This is how far I got before the stroke of midnight and my signal that it was time for bed. The black horizontal strips are not sewn to the rows yet, just wanted a peek at how it was going to look.
