Sunshine Baby Gift Basket

Lafayette Transitional Housing is holding their annual BINGO and Auction Extravaganza on August 20th. I have donated a quilt to this event several times and was always suprised at how little they made on a quilt in the auction. This year, I thought I would try something a little different and I put together this basket of handmade items for a baby.

First is the quilt, which is small, only 36 x 43, but cute as can be. The pattern can be found at Moda Bakeshop.

Next are the cute coordinating burp cloths. These are made by stitching 3 fabric strips together and sewing them to a pre-folded diaper. I like to give these to a new mother along with a baby quilt.

How cute are these little bibs? I found a pattern online, but can't find it again. All I printed out was the cutting page, so if I make them again I will probably try to find the original pattern. The backs of these are washcloths, so nice and absorbent.

Then I used my serger to make these cute receiving blankets. They are about 36" square, so not even a yard of fabric. You could make these any size you want.

I had to include a taggie blanket for baby to play with. These are fun to make and I just happened to have a leftover piece of gray minkee for the back.

The bath mitt and baby wash were from the Dollar Tree and I bought the basket and the letters at Michaels. A little Gorrilla Glue to attache the letters and there you have it.

I've Been Busy!

I haven't been online, but I sure have been busy.

Lucky Me! I won a giveaway from Jill and am so happy to receive this book. She also sent two cute-as-can-be FQs. Thanks So much Jill! I can't wait to start on the book and also looking forward to meeting you in Shipshewana in October.



I made these 4-patch coasters and bibs for our booth



I put these nine patch blocks that Janet gave me together and will quilt this little quilt for the booth.

Little Gifts

Last night while Vicki was quilting her santa wall hanging I was prepping these little gift items. The apron is for a co-worker's son who loves to cook. It is a Simplicity pattern...don't remember the number.



The dish towel was purchased at the Dollar Tree and the cookie fabric at Quilter's Harvest. I know you can buy holiday towels pretty cheap, but I just love to be able to say, "I made it myself!" I have fond memories of making and decorating sugar cookies with my mom as a child and with my children when they were young, so this fabric is special to me.



The tea towels for these bibs are from the Dollar Tree also. I have quite a collection of tea towels to make lots of different bibs. I especially like the ball fringe on the white one.

Bibs, Mystery Quilt and UFO's

Last night Dan fixed a wonderful dinner of grilled/smoked chicken, Amish noodles from Shipshewana and steamed broccoli from our garden last year. So, I got to get a lot of sewing done. I'm so lucky he like to cook!!

I quilted this UFO for a while. Then the phone rang and I can't quilt with the phone on my shoulder, but I can sit at my sewing machine, so......



Then I went to my sewing room and made these bibs for Andrew. They are made with tea towels and ribbing. It probably only took me 20 minutes to make both of them. I have 2 more, but want to make sure they go over his head before I make more. There sure isn't a wide variety of tea towels with cute designs that are reasonably priced. I got the one on the left at K-mart for $3 and the other one came in a package of 3 for $6.99 at Target. My fabric purchase so far this week is the ribbing, which I got a Joanns. It's $6.99/yard regular price, but 40% off right now and a quarter yard will do 10 bibs. Of course, I wanted more than one color, so I got 4 colors. I'll be adding that yard to my stashbusting report this week. Maybe I'll buy some more towels and sell some on etsy.



I also want to embroider a 1st birthday design on one for him to wear on Sunday.




Then I made these 12 blocks that are part of a guild mystery quilt that I'm way behind on. I cut the fabric for it when I was putting away leftover project stuff and the background fabric is from a Pooh quilt that I did, and I knew that If I put it back into a drawer, it wouldn't get used. So, I'll have a cute quilt ready for the next baby girl.
