Quilt Camp

Last Thursday I went to a guild quilt camp at camp Tecumseh. We stayed until Sunday late morning and then I had a baby show to attend, so it was a busy weekend.

My projects included working on Matt's brown and tan quilt, that I don't have an updated photo of, but will soon, then I hand sewed the binding on the twin size Starry Eyed Countdown to Christmas quilt. Julie came to camp on Saturday to pick this one up. I'm donating it to raise money for the Alzheimers Walk. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. If you would like to purchase any tickets, let me know.

I hand sewed the binding on this baby quilt for Margaret's new grandson.

Then I sewed the leftovers together for a NICU quilt.

I also put together this memory quilt. It's made with some hawaiian clothing that belonged to my friend Peg, who passed away earlier this year after a struggle with cancer. She loved Hawaii and made the trip often. This quilt will go to her parents and I hope it will make them smile.

Being at camp, and especially packing up to go home makes me anxious to get to Shipshewana in October. It will be here before we know it.

I was lucky enough to win one of the big door prizes at camp this year. It's a lamp made by Linda and her husband, Norm.



They make several each year and they are filled with the most interesting sewing items.


It's a treasure and I think it looks great sitting on my Singer 15-91 cabinet.



Here is what I received in my door prize bag, a cute wooden crate, handmade! Three fabrics, a ruler, a Frixion marking pen and 2 spools of thread. I'm anxious to try the marking pen. It's supposed to disappear with friction, which is absolutely the strangest thing I've heard of. But, who knows, they just might work.



At one of the meals everyone received one of these pens. THANKS Pilot - what a generous company! Here's the pen along with my FQ from our exchange. I love it!

Over-Optimistic!

I'm doing it again....taking more projects to camp than I can ever finish. But at least I know I won't be bored. The theme is Family Reunion, so maybe I can finish a top for each of my children this weekend. I leave tomorrow from work and here's what I'm taking:

1. JudyL's Star BOM - 9 blocks finished
2. LQS Christmas BOM - 12 blocks from 2006
3. Americana Block Swap - some blocks made from 2007
4. Leftover Stack 'n whack from Kylee's quilt - 2010
5. Christmas Lights mystery quilt by Bonnie Hunter - blocks made 2009
6. Two batik Scrap Bags from Hancocks - 2009 (this would be my only new project!)
7. Assorted test blocks from quilterscache.com - for a few months, I made all my test blocks with Christmas fabrics and I hope to set them with some advice from Linda.

And in case I run out of things to do, Janet will probably need some help assembling the nursery items for her new grandson due at the end of the year.

I'm Off to Quilt Camp

I'm leaving bright and early in the morning and I'll be back on Sunday afternoon....with lots for show 'n tell.

Quilt Camp Summary

What a great time we had at quilt camp. Rossville Quilts sponsored this one and it was held at camp Tecumseh, which is a wonderful place for quilt camp. A great big THANK YOU to Marcia, Kyla, Martha, and Charlotte from Rossville Quilts and Christine from Camp Tecumseh, who all worked hard to make this a successful event.

Bibs
My first project wasn’t really a quilting project, but one that I wanted to get finished. I put ribbing on these cute tea towels to make bibs for Andrew and Elizabeth.....cute, don’t you think. If you have babies, be sure to pick up tea towels when they go on clearance to make some really cute bibs. I only took one color of ribbing, so they all got the same one.




Pillow Cases
This was my next project and I’m only a couple months late in getting these finished. They were made to go with Jeff and Dané’s wedding quilt. Another quick, easy project, and I taught Christine from Camp Tecumseh how to make them and she made one for her brother, who is in the US Navy.



Marlene’s Memory Blocks
Next up was finishing the swap blocks for memory quilts. I completed the last 20 blocks for this, but somehow didn’t get a picture of them.....Later, I promise.

One Block Wonder
This one took FOREVER! I can’t believe how small it is, and how long it took me to assemble it. I couldn’t decide on borders, so this is how it sits for now. I have fabric to do another one, but the blocks will be MUCH LARGER for the next one.




Fall Leaves and Birds Table Runner
This was a kit that I won at a retreat several years ago. I believe the name of this pattern is 1st grade, but I could be wrong. I love how the center fabric looks three-dimensional. I hope it still has that effect after it is quilted. I am thinking of adding prarie points on the outside edge also. The inside ones took quite a bit of time, but I really lik how they turned out.




Bistro Table Runner
I had 4 blocks made for this quilterscache.com table runner called Christmas Star and decided to only use 3 of them and make it a bit smaller than the original one. I plan to use a border print from the Bistro line for the backing and then it will be a gift for a co-worker. I can make something for myself with the leftover block.




I feel good about the projects I finished and look forward to quilting some of them

Julie's On A Roll!

Going to quilt camp gave Julie just the motivation she needed. Here are the projects she worked on at camp and since she's been home.

Her first project, placemats with Thimbleberries fabric, were started at quilt camp almost 2 years ago, but they're finished now!



Then she worked on this very nice Thimbleberries kit called Holly Hill Town. It still needs some borders, but is cute as can be.



And then the brights aura from sewing next to me came over her and she put this one together. The FQ's were bought at that quilt camp almost 2 years ago, along with the book, Take 2 and Add A Few.



She stitched on the first side of the binding of this quilt at camp and did the hand stitching at home, and now it's finished, too.



Looks like I better get busy myself!

Quilt Camp

Whew, what a great time we had. I got lots of sewing done and even convinced my tablemates to go outside their comfort zone and pick some bright fabrics to work with. Joyce was sharing our table and she told me on Thursday that she doesn't work with brights at all. This mauves and green quilt she was hand piecing was beautiful quilt.


I said, (joking) "Just wait, before the weekend is over, you'll be using brights." Well, on Saturday she went up to the store and purchased this pattern and charm pack and whipped this little wall hanging up, saying all the time, "These are sure not my colors!"

I am so sorry that I didn't get any pictures of Julie's beautiful Thimbleberries quilt or of the BRIGHT "Take 2 and Add A Few" blocks that she completed. Maybe she will take some pictures and post them. She also got the binding sewn onto her pink and black quilt.

I put borders on my Labor Day Challenge,



Borders on my Burger Queen Mystery quilt, using a pattern from JudyL's Nine-Patch Extravaganza book,




I made this little activity tote for Andrew that holds coloring books and has a chalkboard fabric panel inside. (For when he is old enough to not try to eat his crayons!)





Used the remains of my Moda Fresh Air jelly roll to make these two.



I made 24 courthouse steps blocks and 4 star blocks for this one. I have the remaining 21 star blocks cut out and ready to sew.
