Roberta's Christmas Wall Hanging
Here is a quilted piece that didn't take much time at all. Roberta is planning to applique reindeer on this piece. The antlers of the reindeer will be her grandchildren's handprints. I've never seen one quite like this, so I look forward to seeing it finished. She promised to share photos with me.
She wanted a swirling snow effect, so I chose Waterworld panto for the center and beadboard for the border.

Roberta's Race Car quilt
Roberta made this really cute race car quilt for her grandson, Mac. He's now old enough to spend the night at grandma's and she wanted him to have a special quilt.
The race car fabric is so cute. I don't think I've ever seen this one and her choice of coordinating fabrics is great. We didn't talk about thread color when she dropped it off, but I had that lime green thread on Mabel and I decided to use it for this one. She also requested his name be embroidered on one of the borders, so that's in lime green also.
When she picked it up, she was thrilled with the thread color. She brought a lightweight poly batting and Ribbon Twirl is the panto as I love the movement it creates.

Roberta's Antique Quilt Tops
I finished quilting the last 2 quilts for Roberta this weekend. I used a Hobbs poly batting and really wish I had used 80/20 because I'm not fond of the puffiness.
This one was quilted with the Button Flower panto by Keryn Emmerson, and Permacore White thread. I'm not sure of the name of this pattern, but it is really pretty.

This one had lots of fullness in the center and I quilted a freehand e's & o's meander, denser within the star. It looks like she started out trying to use the colors of the fabrics in the star and then gave up and stitched them randomly.

I have stitched the binding on by machine and will hand stitch the other sides this week. I'm sure Roberta's daughters will be quite happy with these heirlooms.

Shadowbox & Binding
Last night I bound the Shadowbox quilt and tonight I added the label and took some pics. There are some Hawaiian themed fabrics in this quilt as a memory of Spring Break In Hawaii Quilt Retreat 2010.

I guess I was on a binding roll because after a dip in the pool, I finished this Fig Tree quilt with machine binding:

Then I hand sewed 2 sides of Roberta's quilt. Only one side to go on this one.

I will be loading a customer quilt tomorrow evening, as my personal sewing time has run out. It sure has been fun working on something of my own. And it will be fun to stop by the Open Show at the 4-H Fair to see it displayed. (Hopefully with a pretty ribbon on it!)

Another quilt of Roberta's and Lois' Batiks
I finished this one up on Saturday. It has quite a few stains, but I have had pretty good luck with washing these and the stains coming out most of the way. I'm not sure of the pattern, but it could be Caesar's crown, Grecian star, or Whirling Wheel, according to the Encyclopedia of Quilt Blooks.
The background is meandered and the pieced block has CC's. The thread it Permacore Eggshell and the batting is Hobbs poly, a thicker batting to help with the fullness of some of the blocks.

And the back:

This one was made by Lois and is the 2nd one of the same fabrics and design. Her piecing is wonderful and it laid flat as can be.

The thread is Permacore white, the batting is Warm & White and the quilting is Fay Feathers

Roberta's Quilts
I finished the first of 4 quilts from Roberta. Her mother pieced them and she wants them quilted to give to her 4 daughters. What a wonderful heirloom for them.
I gave her a couple of price options and she chose pantographs. I did think for a bit that I might go ahead and do light custom and charge her for the less expensive quilting. Do you ever do that? Now that I've got first one finished, I will do the rest in a similar manner.
