Beat the Blues Day 2

One of my #8 UFOs is a pile of birthday blocks from an online group many years ago. We got to choose our color preference and everyone made a lemoyne star variation in those colors.  I wasn't sure what to do with them but I think I have a plan.

They are arranged like this:

The sashing will be 3 piece rails in assorted colors with 9-patch cornerstones. I saw this quilt photo last year that I'm using for inspiration. I'm not too sure how it will look with the white rail fence strips right next to the blocks with white backgrounds. We'll see how it goes. 

I also started quilting Mary's cross quilt. More photos tomorrow. 

Janet's 4-Patch Raspberry and Chocolate

Janet fell in love with pink and brown when it first appeared in quilt shops and has collected quite a collection. This is the first one using these colors. She made this one with just 4-patches.

I quilted it with Fay Feathers panto and used Hobbs 80/20 batting and PermaCore Mother Goose thread. Such pretty fabrics, don't you think!

Mary's Brown Quilt

Mary made this quilt and it will go perfectly in her country home. I'm not sure if she plans tokeep it, but it sure is a beauty.

I don't very often use brown thread, but I thought it would work well for this quilt and I have some prewound brown bobbins, too. I chose Fay Feathers Panto and Hobbs 80/20 batting.

Carla's Friend Quilt #5

I think this may be the last of the quilts that Carla made for her friends. This one is just as beautiful as the others. It may be upside down in this photo.

I chose Fay Feathers panto and Omni Pearl White thread.

The backing really shows the quilting well. I'm never really sure what color thread to use in the bobbin with a backing like this, but the Pearl White looks good on all the fabrics.

A New Quilter!

Carla's friend Joan made this quilt, her first! I think it's a very nice quilt for a first quilt. It took me a while to realize that it's a 4-patch posie quilt.



The quilting design is Fay Feathers, the thread is PermaCore Dyed Natural and the batting is Quilter's Dream cotton. Bet you weren't ready for that one!!! I had ordered a few packages last year and since the back of this one was a white moda wide backing, I thought it would be nice to use a white batting rather than my usual Hobbs 80/20.

Dancing with Mabel

Tonight I got to spend some time dancing with Mabel. It seems like forever since I quilted anything. Spending way too much time watching "24"

I spent a relaxing weekend at the French Lick Resort, compliments of my employer, The National Group. All 20+ employees attended, and most with their spouses and families. We were treated to 2 wonderful speakers on Saturday morning and the rest of the weekend was ours to enjoy. Of course, we were given some spending money for meals and fun! What a great company to work for.

Anyway back to quilting...
I loaded Julianne's very first quilt tonight and am using the Fay Feather pantograph that she requested. I love the seafoam green thread on this one.

NICU Quilts

Carole sent these 6 fabrics to be quilted for NICU quilts. the first 4 are flannel and are oh so soft. Probably the softest flannel I've ever seen and such cute fabrics. Warm & Natural batting and PermaCore Eggshell thread in all three.

Another quilt of Roberta's and Lois' Batiks

I finished this one up on Saturday. It has quite a few stains, but I have had pretty good luck with washing these and the stains coming out most of the way. I'm not sure of the pattern, but it could be Caesar's crown, Grecian star, or Whirling Wheel, according to the Encyclopedia of Quilt Blooks.

The background is meandered and the pieced block has CC's. The thread it Permacore Eggshell and the batting is Hobbs poly, a thicker batting to help with the fullness of some of the blocks.

This one was made by Lois and is the 2nd one of the same fabrics and design. Her piecing is wonderful and it laid flat as can be.

Roberta's Quilts

I finished the first of 4 quilts from Roberta. Her mother pieced them and she wants them quilted to give to her 4 daughters. What a wonderful heirloom for them.



I gave her a couple of price options and she chose pantographs. I did think for a bit that I might go ahead and do light custom and charge her for the less expensive quilting. Do you ever do that? Now that I've got first one finished, I will do the rest in a similar manner.

Pretty Sparse in the Posting Department Around Here!

Geesh, where is the time going? I have been very busy getting ready for quilt retreat that starts tomorrow. I did get the group quilt quilted that we are giving to the massage therapist who will be at camp. He wanted a quilt this year instead of beeing paid, so Laurie and I met him at Cheryl's Quilts and he picked out the pattern and the fabrics. Laurie tok them home and cut up and packaged the blocks. Guild members then made the blocks and Laurie assembled the quilt.



I quilted it last weekend and it's ready for the binding. Don't have a good full shot of it but will take one with him at camp.

Gracie's Robbing Peter to Pay Paul

I finished this one last night and am so happy with the results. Sometimes, you just have to go with your gut and that's what I did. I spent way too many hours thinking about how I could do a custom job on this quilt and in the end, it didn't need custom.

Another Fay Feathers

Since I already had the pantograph on the table, I thought it would be a good choice for this next quilt.

The batiks in this one are beautiful, but I have to say that I'm not sure if it belongs to Carol or Lois. Last month at guild Carol handed me a bag with 2 quilt tops and backings and said one was hers and one was from Lois. She probably told me which one was which, but I don't remember. I'm planning to have both of them finished to take back to guild tomorrow night, so I'll find out then.

Fay Feathers

This is one of carole's quilts and the colors are so nice. I finished it a little after midnight last night and used a new-to-me pantograph, Fay Feathers by Lorien Quilting, Hobbs 80/20 batting and Honey PermaCore thread on top and a prewound in the bobbin.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the look of this one and I hope Carole does also.






Next up are quilts for Lois and Carol that I would like to have finished by guild on Tuesday. I thought Imight get to sew a little with Dottie today, but that's going to have to wait until another day.
