That's What Friends Are For!

A few years ago I purchased a little kit for a mini Dresden Plate quilt for $14.99 while on a Shop Hop with my guild. Months later I opened up the package and saw the size of the plates. They were tiny!!! No bigger than an inch.

Talking to my friend Janet about it, she said she would love to have it. So, I handed it over to her and wished her well. Imagine my surprise when I unwrapped it at Christmas this year. She had stitched all those little plates and sewn them down to the background, and she even quilted it. The only thing I had left to do was the binding. See that 3.5" ruler!



I finished up the binding while at the Indianapolis Airport during our 6 hour delay.

The Dresden Plates

This one is finished, binding and all. I'll ship it to Mary tomorrow and can't wait to see what she thinks. Thanks Viki, for the suggestion of pebbles in the center circles. Hobbs 80/20, which by the way has just gone up in price :(

Design Wall Monday

Well, the dresden plates made from the shirts is now a top! I have a few customer quilts to quilt before I can load this one and get it finished.

June BOM

I finished the hand applique on this month's BOM at Cheryl's Quilt Shop. Sometimes when I make a block like this, I think I would like to make an entire quilt with these. Maybe I will......hmmmm. I must say that I prefer the Dresden Fans that have a point, like these that I made for a block swap.

This BOM doesn't meet until the last Saturday of the month, so I'm ahead of the game this month.

Marty's Four Patch

Marty came to quilt this morning and we loaded this flannel off-center four patch quilt. She used the CL Baptist Fan templates and just sailed right along with it while I was busy stitching more Dresden Plates.




About those Dresden Plates.....you sure don't use very much fabric when your sewing time involves appliqueing these onto muslin. I have 4 of them complete and another 3 ready to applique down. I'm appliqueing the center circle to the plates before I applique the outer edges because the swap recipients of these blocks may want to remove the muslin behind the plate to reduce some of the bulk.

Decisions, Decisions....

OK, I'm looking for opinions here. Which way would you applique these onto the muslin squares?

Dresden Fan

Everyone that guessed Dresden Fan from the Saturday night photo was correct.

Here are the blades all turned, pressed and sorted by fabric. they look pretty here, but just wait:




And here they are all divided up into 12 blade sets. I had to do this rather than just doing them randomly, because I had visions of ending up with only one or two colors when it got down to the last few blocks. Now I'm really getting excited about these blocks:

I think they are just lovely and I'm having second thoughts about giving them away. But, of course, I must. They are for an online 1930's block swap. Who knows, I might just make more for myself.
