Virginia's Paper Dolls

Virginia made this cute quilt using paper doll and 1930's fabrics.

 I chose button Flower for the quilting as I think it brings out the girly-look of this quilt.

 Poly batting and White Omni thread for this quilt for a lucky little girl.

Virginia's Nine Patches

Virginia made this big quilt for a friend, I think. Her stash must be incredible and she has such a great eye for putting fabrics together. There are a lot of calicos in this one, but some modern fabrics too, and they all play well together.

I chose a small meander in the sashing and Continuous Curves in the blocks. These designs work well with the quilt and I was able to go from one edge of the quilt to the other in one pass.

Playing Catch-Up

I can't believe how long it's been since I posted. 6 Weeks to be exact. Yikes! I'm going to schedule some posts to finish out the year.

This quilt was on my sidebar for a long time. It was made by Virginia and It's just cute as can be. It's a Disappearing 9-patch and she used a layer cake, I think.

I quilted it with a new-to-me panto called Flower Child, by Apricot Moon Designs. 

I really had to pay attention to the coming in and going out of the flowers because if my mind was wandering, I could mess up really easy. I actually did that about 12" from the very end when I was doing just a half row.

I used light pink Omni thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting.
This will be one of my favorite pantos, I can tell.

 Here's the back, which is a flannel.

Virginia's Lone star

Actually a friend of Virginia made this quilt. There's all kinds of fabrics in this one.

Although the points don't all match, it laid relatively flat. I just love doing Continuous Curves on lone star quilts.

A meander in the background, double wavy lines in the inner border and boxy feathers in the outer border.

Virginia's Quilts

Virginia has been busy this year too. She made this beautiful Trip Around The World.

Unfortunately, I neglected to take more photos before I shipped it back to her. The quilting was a meander in the center, wavy loops in the inner border and e's and o's in the outer border.

I also quilted this scrappy rail fence quilt for her. This is just beautiful, look at all the different fabrics. Her stash must be amazing!

 Not many photos of this one either, but I do have one in process.
Popcorn pantograph on this one with lite pink Omni thread. Both of these quilts have Quilters Dream poly batting.

Virginia's Brown and Aqua Quilt

This quilt made by Virginia is a very simple pattern, but looks stunning! It's just a nine-patch and focus fabric square. The fabrics play so nicely together.

I chose Celtic Scroll for the quilting design and Mother Goose PermaCore thread. I used Hobbs 80/20 batting by mistake because she sent a poly batting. I was on the second pass of quilting when I realized my mistake. Hope she doesn't mind!

Virginia's Scrappy Bricks

Another beautiful quilt made by Virginia. Not sure of the pattern, but it's a great one.

I quilted it with Spin and used Spearmint Omni thread and a poly batting. I purchased the panto and thought it was too small, so I had it enlarged and I think it's just the right size for this quilt.

I'm always amazed at the number of fabrics in a scrappy quilt like this one. I would love to see Virginia's stash!

Virginia made this beautiful quilt. I think I love pink and black!

I chose a gray Permacore thread and used a poly batting she sent. The quilting designs are continuous curves in the small squares, line dancing in the large squares, and meandering in the black sashing.

Virginia's Bricks & Stepping Stones #2

This is the second Bricks and stepping Stones made by Virginia for a Chirstmas gift this year. She was schedule to come to the retreat, but had to cancel at the last minute. I really missed seeing her this year and I hope she can attend in 2013.

When I found out she wasn't coming, I meant to get it sent off to her before retreat but I didn't get the pictures taken until today.

It's another lovely one! I chose Feather Me panto, a light tan thread and used a poly batting that she sent.

Virginia's Block of the Month

Virginia made this Block of the Month from Joann's to give as a Christmas gift. Her piecing is amazing and I love that she stay stitches around all the outside edges. Makes my job a whole lot easier.

E's and L's in the outer borders and the sashing. I alternated the direction of them in the sashing.  I used a Chantilly Lace block design in the blocks and did a meander in the border with the busy fabric.

I thought I had more pclose up pictures, but they's not on my camera. It's on it's way to Virginia via UPS, so I can't take more photos, but maybe she will bring it to Shipshewana next week for show and tell. I can't believe that the retreat is next week already.

Virginia's Quilts for Christmas

My friend Virginia from Ohio makes quilt for Christmas gifts. I also make some quilts for Christmas, but not like Virginia.  I've already quilted and sent back 3 to her. Here are two more and there are five still waiting for me.

I love this one!
It's a pattern from JudyL called Peaches and Dreams, but I think this may be the best one I've seen.

Just look at these fabrics! Her ability to put fabrics together amazes me. I really love it. I used Square Spiral and So Fine lime green thread and it gave it some really nice definition. It's for a guy so I didn't want to use anything floral.

The next one is her Bricks and Stepping Stones. That is a Bonnie Hunter pattern over at Quiltville.

This one got Popcorn in a tan PermaCore thread.

Virginia's Quilts

Here are #2 & #3 of Virginia's Christmas quilts.

I've had the #2 Brown and Green one done for a couple weeks now, but hadn't taken any pictures of it besides the one for "What's on Mabel."

I think she made one similar to this last year also and this one is just a great. I love all the different greens.

I chose Popcorn for the pantograph, and Permacore Camel thread.

This one with 1930's fabrics is just too cute. Dan said last night it would make a great baby quilt, so I'll have to remember the pattern when I need another baby quilt.

The center is Angel Wings panto, and the inner border has rick-rack. At least that's what I'm calling it because it reminds me of rick-rack.

The outer border is just a meander.

I couldn't get all of the the last row of the panto in, so I changed the butterflies to have 2 bumps on their wings instead of 3. It was a struggle to remember that each time I approached the butterflies.

Virginia's First 2012 Christmas Quilt

Virginia makes quilts for her family for Christmas and this is the first one I'm quilting for her this year. I have 2 more waiting for their turn.

I chose Erin Panto as this one is for a guy and it doesn't have such a flowery look as most of my pantos.  Omni Light Tan thread and a poly batting.

And the back, which is actually tan, but the lighting is way off.

Virginia's Racing Quilt

This is the seventh quilt I've quilted for Virginia this fall. She's been very busy making quilts and sewing PJ's for Christmas.



I was planning to quilt something different in the flame blocks and do the borders separately, but when I saw the Mini Ebb panto on Jill's blog, I knew I was going to use Ebb and Flow for this one.



It's supposed to be water, but I think it sure resembles the flames and pulls the whole quilt together.

Virginia's 2nd double Stairsteps

I quilted the second double Stairsteps made by Virginia on Sunday.



This one has more custom quilting than the last. Flat feathers in the outer border, wiggly lines in the narrow borders and CCs in the square border.



The center quilting design is Lime Tree by Keryn Emmerson. Poly batting and Omni Safari thread were used on this one.



It's packaged up and on it'e way home also.
